To convert a drive to the FAT32 file system, use the following steps. NOTE: Before you convert to the FAT32 file system, uninstall any utilities or tools that protect or encrypt the Master Boot Record (MBR) or partition table (for example, uninstall Bootlock included with Symantec Norton Your Eyes Only). MPEG-4 (MP4) is a container video format that can store multimedia data, usually audio and video. It is compatible with a wide range of devices and operating systems, using a codec to compress file size, resulting in a file that is easy to manage and store. It is also a popular video format for streaming over the Internet, such as on YouTube. For whatever reason, the option to format USB drives larger than 32GB with the FAT32 file system isn’t present in the regular Windows format tool. Here’s how to get around that.
RELATED:What File System Should I Use for My USB Drive?
FAT32 is a solid file system for external drives, so long as you don’t plan to use files over 4GB in size. If you do need those larger file sizes, you’ll need to stick with something like NTFS or exFAT. The advantage to using FAT32 is portability. Every major operating system and most devices support it, making it great for drives you need to access from different systems. Specifications put out by manufacturers on file systems as they pertain to drive size created the myth that FAT32 can only be used to format drives between 2 GB and 32 GB, and that is likely why native tools on Windows—and other systems—have that limit. The truth is that FAT32 has a theoretical volume size limit of 16 TB, with a current practical limit of about 8 TB—plenty for most USB drives.
We’re going to show you two ways to format larger USB drives with FAT32. One method uses PowerShell (or the Command Prompt), the other a free, third-party tool.
Format Large USB Drives with FAT32 by Using FAT32 Format
RELATED:What Is a 'Portable' App, and Why Does It Matter?
The easiest way to format larger USB drives with FAT32—if you’re willing to download a free, third party app—is to use the GUI version of FAT32 Format by Ridgecrop Consultants (click the screenshot on that page to download the app). It’s a portable app, so you won’t need to install anything. Just run the executable file.
In the “FAT32 Format” window, select the drive to format and type a volume label if you want to. Select the “Quick Format” option, and then click the “Start” button.

A window pops up to warn you that all data on the drive will be lost. Click “OK” to format the drive.
Formatting with this tool is much quicker than the command line method described in the next section. This tool took a few seconds to format our 64GB USB drive that took us over an hour in PowerShell.
One thing to note here: you’ll need to close any open File Explorer windows before you format the drive. If you don’t, the tool will interpret the drive as being used by another app and formatting will fail. If this happens to you, just close the File Explorer windows and try again. No need to relaunch the tool or anything.
Format Large USB Drives with FAT32 by Using PowerShell
You can format USB drives larger than 32GB with FAT32 by using the
format
command in PowerShell or Command Prompt—the command uses the same syntax in both tools. The downside to doing this is that it can take a long time. Formatting our 64GB USB drive took almost over an hour, and we’ve heard some people complain that it can take many hours for bigger drives. Aside from the length of time, you also won’t know if formatting failed—unlikely but possible—until the process is done.Still, if you don’t want to—or can’t—download a third-party app, using the
format
command is pretty straightforward. Open PowerShell with administrative privileges by hitting Windows+X on your keyboard, and then selecting “PowerShell (Admin)” from the Power User menu.At the PowerShell prompt, type the following command (replacing
X:
with whatever drive letter you want to format), and then hit Enter:Advertisement
Like we said, it can take a long time to format a drive this way, so if you can use the third-party download we described in the last section, you should.

We have a Foehn & Hirsch LMHCUH television.
It has a usb port which I have previous looked at pictures through.
I want to watch films - in .mp4 format it shows me the films on the menu screen on the TV, but when I try to play it says unsupported file. I cannot find any information in the manual about it (but then the manual doesn't say much about much to be honest!)
Maybe your TV doesn't play MP4 files? You should convert it first to AVI format or other formats
Have you tried using a video conversion software that would change the format to a more universal .AVI or MPEG? Perhpas this could make it easier to read for your device. Although, I'm almost positive .MP4 is also pretty universal.
Why is this a useless post? I would imagine there are thousands of people out there trying to work out why they can't get video to play off a USB stick. Heck, I am a video professional (producer/cameraman/editor) with over 20 years experience and I still struggled with this initially.
And why would ANYTHING be unworthy of Facebook? Dog feces and all things inferior to it are worthy of Facebook.

5) A dialog will open. Select the location where you want to save the file. Click Convert.

Just buy another TV - much simpler!
hi dont convert dont do any thing ,just fomate the usb with ntfs and it will work perfecty
Was it really necessarry to show this on facebook and point to this useless post ..
The USB drive has to be formatted to FAT32, which is ususally the default for a USB drive. If it is NTFS, or someting else, the TV will not recognize it.Then add the mp4 file to the drive. The TV should recognize it now.
If you can view files that are on the USB drive on the TV, it obviously can read the drive, duh!
Buy a Raspberry Pi computer. 5.5v bluray playback device and its super easy to use! Has HDMI / 2 usb ports, Ethernet port and The OpenElec OS combined with XBMC plays all my movie files pictures music ETC for 45$ cant go wrong!
So the answer is 'You can't!'.

Convert Mp4 To Fat32
Put drive in blu ray player connected to TV and it will play movies
Hey, the .MP4 is just a container like .AVI and .MKV and these are not formats. A format is like MPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (Part 2), MPEG-4 AVC (Part 10) or H.264 or x264. Anyway, the point is your TV may not identify the format by the container (file name extension) so just RENAME your .MP4 to .AVI and see if it works. If it does, I will give you more gyan on why it did. :) All best!
convert to avi and see if it works, perhaps the only media supported are pictures
There is no such model as 'LMHCUH' listed on their homepage or anywhere else I looked on the web e.g. shops. At this point all I can say is that the problem is straight forward: Your mp4 files are not supported. It may be the encoding e.g. x264 or it may be the entire container.
Since none of their models lists any media support I would assume images are the only supported type.
Of course you can always try using another format and encoding e.g. using a simple mpeg-1 file or maybe DivX.
